Redfields Garden Centre was founded in 1977 by father and son team Roy and Richard Jones. At the time Roy was a successful agricultural merchant specialising in seeds and fertilizers. Roy foresaw the changes and growing interest in home gardening, he recognised that
this new wave of interest in gardening and home owner enthusiasm to better use their outdoor space, needed specialist retailers to support the growing trend and new market. Very shortly after the initial opening, Roy and Richard were joined by Roy’s daughter Ann and son in-law Malcolm.
Malcolm, Ann and Richard are today still the principle owner operators of the business.
The Garden Centre site is located just 100 metres from the original family home in Gables Road, Church Crookham and that local knowledge has enabled the family to provide sound advice and service to the ever growing local and wider community. Testament to this has been the continued growth and success of the Garden Centre over the last 30 years.
When the Centre was opened, plants were grown directly on the site, as well as being sourced locally. Over the years the range of plants and gardening products has steadily expanded to meet the needs of our customers. Like our range of products over the last 30 years, the Garden Centre has expanded to accommodate higher numbers of visitors from further and further a field. Today you can
get almost anything you need from us to help you develop, maintain, improve and make the best use of your garden.
Redfields has always strived to provide the highest standards in Garden Centre retailing and have won a number of excellence awards in doing so. In 2000,
Redfields was proud to be voted Garden Centre of the Year by the Garden Centre Association (GCA).The GCA is an association supporting the highest standards in retailing for the vast majority of the finest Garden Centres in the country. Wherever you travel within the UK or even the world, there will usually be a quality GCA member nearby.
Nearly 30 years on and Redfields is still very much a family business. We seek to offer the great combination of good advice with quality products at competitive prices.
In our ever popular Bunnery Restaurant (soon to be renamed Royston’s in memory of our founder) you will find home made food,
friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.
Redfields has continued to expand and now incorporates three other associated divisions. Redfields Landscaping and Design specialise in creating beautiful landscapes for builders and developers by using Garden Centre quality plants. Lotus Landscapes are specialists in providing maintenance, tree surgery and many other services to everyone from local authorities to prestigious hotels, as well as local gardeners.
In 2005, we refurbished an old redundant nursery just a mile away from Ewshot Lane and created Redfields Plant Centre.
Totally dedicated to growing plants just for us, it has enabled us to supply our customers with top quality plants, some unique to us. We are that confident of their quality that all our “HomeGrown” plants are guaranteed for a full five years.
Modern retailing is changing as we all become more time pressured. So, continuing with the foresight that started the business, Malcolm, Ann and
Richard are currently seeking to redevelop the Garden Centre to create a new 21st Century eco-friendly centre suitable for the future generations of gardeners.
Redfields was founded with vision and continues to look ahead at the needs of its customers. Styles and demands of Garden Centre retailing have, and will, continue to change. Redfields will continue to change and modernise its operation over the coming years. One thing we will not change is the passion for quality, value and service that the business was founded on. We will continue to be a modern centre with tradition values.
